As the clouds swelled over Grand Forks Air Force Base and the Grand Forks region, members of the Incident Control Center leapt into action to protect Airmen and their families, as well as mitigate damage to property caused by tornadic activity and lightning strikes. Not long after sounding the tornado warning sirens and notifying the base community, a tornado was spotted less than 20 miles southeast of the base. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Johnny Saldivar)
