Deployed family dinners offer connection for Grand Forks AFB community Published July 15, 2026 By Airman 1st Class Nailah Pacheco 319th Reconnaissance Wing GRAND FORKS AFB -- The 319th Reconnaissance Wing First Sergeant Council sponsored the July deployed family dinner, July 14, here. Spouses and children of Airmen currently deployed, preparing to deploy and those who recently returned connected during the event. The monthly dinners are organized through the 319th Force Support Squadron Military & Family Readiness Center and are hosted by different organizations each month. The monthly events feature a free dinner, children’s activities and an opportunity for families to connect with fellow military spouses, helping agencies and installation leadership. “These dinners give families a place to come together and build a sense of community while their loved ones are deployed,” said Tech. Sgt. Matthew Richardson, M&FRC noncommissioned officer in charge for the 319th FSS. “For one night each month, spouses can enjoy a meal, connect with others who understand what they’re going through, and let their children participate in activities. It reminds them they have a support network here at Grand Forks.” The M&FRC coordinates the monthly dinners for families of Airmen assigned to a deployment, remote tour or temporary duty over 30 days. Families are invited to attend one month before the Airman’s departure, during the duration of the separation and one month following their return. “The support from other spouses has made the biggest difference for me,” said Emily Smith, spouse of a deployed military member. “It’s comforting to connect with people who understand what deployment is like.” The dinners aim to strengthen on-base community connection and ensure families know where to turn for support during a loved one’s deployment. Families interested in attending one of the dinners may contact the M&FRC at (701) 747-3241 for more information.
