Grand Forks Air Force Base recently hosted its first-ever "Mocktail Madness," an event that brought a splash of fun and flavor to the community. Planned by the Alcohol Working Group, a sub-committee of the Community Action Team, the event was a creative initiative to offer enjoyable, alcohol-free social alternatives.

Hosted at the GFAFB library and funded by the Chief's Group in partnership with the Military Affairs Committee, "Mocktail Madness" was designed to create a lively social gathering during a time of year when weather can be unpredictable and regular activities seem to be in a lull. The event successfully highlighted the importance of providing appealing alcohol alternatives, reinforcing the message of responsible drinking without taking away choices.

The event also reinforced that social gatherings are enhanced when they are inclusive. The reasons people choose not to drink are personal and varied, and providing creative alternatives ensures that everyone can feel welcome and part of the fun.

A highlight of the evening was the "Mocktail Master" contest, where participants showcased their mixology skills. Elizabeth Morvey, from AMXS, was crowned the winner for her innovative "Hibiscus Starlight." This delightful drink featured a unique blend of hibiscus lemon tea, a popular beverage in Ghana, combined with pineapple and lychee juice.

Adding to the interactive fun was a "Dirty Soda Bar," a concept that has been gaining popularity across the country. Guests had a great time experimenting with different soda mixes and flavor combinations, leading to lively conversations and a shared sense of discovery.

Overall, "Mocktail Madness" was a resounding success, proving that fun and creative social events can be both alcohol-free and exciting. The event not only provided a great time for all who attended but also fostered a positive and supportive community atmosphere.
