A Hero’s Reward

Small Coca Cola bottles were used as center pieces on the tables at a presentation on the Tuskegee Airmen on Feb. 26, 2013, at Grand Forks Air Force Base. N.D. The “Gladiators of the Sky” presentation was hosted by the African American Cultural Association in observance of this year’s African American/Black History Month. A soda bottle such as this one was given to a black pilot as a congratulatory prize for shooting down an enemy aircraft during WWII, while white pilots were typically given champagne.
