Tutor.com, a Department of Defense program, provides free online tutoring and homework assistance 24/7 to military families worldwide at www.Tutor.com/military.

Program Manager Maureen Haney visited here Dec. 11, 2013, to brief parents, educators and students here on what tutor.com can do for them and how to use it.

Students can work on more than 40 different subjects of all skill levels ranging from elementary to Advanced Placement level.

There are approximately 3,000 expert tutors who are certified teachers, college professors and other professionals that are able to help students with their homework and education needs. Approximately 10 percent of the tutors are affiliated with the military.

Every tutoring session happens in an easy to use virtual classroom where a student can chat with a tutor and work on their school assignments on a shared white board. They are also able to share files or browse the web together.

The average time to get in contact with a tutor is less than two minutes.

"The kids get to a level where parents...don't understand the math anymore," said Jim Stallard, 319th Force Support Squadron force development flight chief. "They can jump on this program and get help instantly."

There is no need to make any appointments regardless of where students attend school. Students around the world can access the online service using any internet-enabled device, including smartphones and tablets.

"As a mom I absolutely think this is a good website for my children," said Joanne Burch, 319th Force Support Squadron training curriculum specialist at the base Youth Center. "I have an eighteen-years-old who is a freshman in college and a nine-years-old with learning disabilities and this well help enormously."

Those eligible for tutor.com/military are; all U.S. military family children in grades K-12, students in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard, Reserves, Wounded Warriors and deployed civilian families.
