While reviewing closed circuit TV footage of June 4th, 2018, base officials discovered suspected abuse of a child by child development center employee Donna Mae Anderson.

As is policy with any report of suspected misconduct, Ms. Anderson was immediately removed from all contact with children and officials notified the child’s parents. Additionally, the open investigation was turned over to local law enforcement.

“We can assure parents that prior to employment, each child care employee undergoes rigorous background checks in both the Department of Defense and law enforcement databases to include records review of criminal, mental health, and other criteria,” said Col. Heather Cook, 319th Mission Support Group commander. “Our expectation of care is that child development center employees treat each child as if they were their own.”

In order to protect the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of the child involved, additional details cannot be released; however, Ms. Anderson is no longer employed at Grand Forks AFB.

At this time, there are no other investigations of abuse at the child development center other than this isolated incident.

“The safety and security of our children is the child development center's number one priority,” said Cook. “Each child is a treasure and must be protected as such.”
